In this workshop, participants will use family stories and oral history as a point of departure for writing fiction and narrative nonfiction. We will read short prose pieces by authors such as Grace Paley, Jayne Anne Phillips, and William Saroyan, then work on a series of in-class writing exercises to be shared and discussed.
Nancy Kricorian is a novelist, essayist and organizer based in New York City. She was born and raised in the Armenian community of Watertown, Massachusetts. She has taught at Barnard, Columbia, Rutgers, NYU and Queens College, and is the author of four novels about the experiences of the post-genocide Armenian diaspora.
She has published poems and essays in literary journals and outlets such as the Los Angeles Review of Books Quarterly, WITNESS, Guernica, In These Times, The Minnesota Review and the Mississippi Review.
